As “The Most Feared Man in the Game”, Butkus graced the cover of Sports Illustrated for the second time on September 21, 1970. Known as the ultimate “Man in the Middle” from the SI cover story, Butkus possessed grit, speed, tenacity and desire which made him one of the game’s most competitive players and defined the position of middle linebacker.

Dick Butkus was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility in 1979 and is known as one of the greatest defensive players in the history of the game.
